MSE research team, led by Prof. Bu Xianhe, reviewedrecent advances and perspectives of proton-conductive Metal-Organic Frameworks,which was published by Coordination Chemistry Reviews (doi:10.1016/j.ccr.2017.03.027).



Over the past decades, research on proton-conductive metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)has rapidly accelerated due to the importance of energy for modern society.This review mainly focuses on some representative proton-conductive MOFsreported recently, with related discussions on the underlying protontransportation mechanisms. In the first section, we give a brief introductionto the background of proton-conductive MOFs. In the following second section, asummarization on the widely used experimental characterization techniques aswell as the well-established computational methods for exploring the protontransportation mechanism is given. In the third section, some representativestudies in this field are reviewed from the aspect that how to tune the protonconductivity of MOFs, with emphasis on the following factors: the impact offramework and guest molecules/ions; the modification with functionalized groupsand the tuning of Brønsted acidity; the influence of phase transition, defects,and amorphization. Finally, the conclusion and perspective are presentedregarding the modulation on the proton conductivity of MOFs and the rationaldesign of novel proton-conductive MOFs.
